The flared base helps to make sure it doesn't get lost in your nether regions, however the rather skinny design doesn't help keep it in place, and often times I have had to reinsert it because the pattern or vibration caused it to slip out. The device itself isn't all together that loud, but can become louder with some of the more intense vibration and patterns. All in all this is a perfect little device for beginners, that is sure to delight for what it is.
